The skin ritual

What the skin has always known

In the Rif, skin care was never a separate category. It was part of the same logic as food: what you put on the body is paramount to your health. Rif women used olive oil on their skin long before the cosmetics industry existed, and their skin reflected it.

Bama Heritage’s low acidity (0.2%) and high polyphenol content make it exceptionally gentle and effective on skin. Vitamin E, squalene, and oleocanthal work together, squalene mimics the skin’s own natural oils; vitamin E neutralises free radicals; oleocanthal reduces surface inflammation.

The Amazigh call this force tazmalt. It is the quiet strength that lives in the olive tree, in the oil, in the hands that press it into the skin. When you apply Bama, you are not adding something foreign. You are remembering something your skin already knows.

How to do it

Three gestures.
Every morning.

01

Prepare

Use a gentle cleanser if you’re using on skin and warm water, and pat dry the area.
For your hair, brush it applying a gentle pressure on the scalp to open the pores.

02

Apply

Quantity is key. Start with a little amount and add if necessary to avoid clogging the pores. For your whole body: two teaspoon total.
The oil should be at room temperature and feel warm, not hot. Heat degrades polyphenols. Your body temperature is perfect;
For your hair start with the scalp, and then apply with the comb of your choice.

03

Massage

Place your palms or your fingers flat against your skin. Press gently. Hold for one second. Lift. Move to the next area. Repeat then move on to massaging in circular motions.
The skin works like a spongs, and this pressure moovement creates a reflex of absorption that accentuate the oil’s penetration.
Rubbing creates friction and wastes oil.

04

Relax

Stand or sit quietly for 5-20 mins allowing the oil to heal your skin and hair. You can use this opportunity to meditate. If your skin feels oily, blot once with a soft cloth. Next time, use one fewer drop.
Wash gently your hair and skin accordingly to your routine.

Why it works

How the oil heals your skin

The skin absorbs what it recognises. Olive oil’s molecular structure is close to the skin’s own sebum, which is why it integrates rather than sitting on the surface.

At 0.2% acidity, Bama is gentle enough for daily facial use without disrupting the skin’s natural pH. Unlike many cosmetics, it contains no emulsifiers, preservatives, or synthetic compounds that need processing by the skin.

Hydration

Squalene and oleic acid form a moisture barrier that reduces transepidermal water loss without clogging pores.

Softness

Polyphenols and oleocanthal reduce surface micro-inflammation, the primary cause of redness and rough texture.

Protection

Vitamin E neutralises free radicals from UV exposure and pollution. Consistent use slows visible signs of oxidative stress.

Hair care

Applied to hair ends, olive oil seals the cuticle, reduces frizz, and prevents moisture loss — especially in dry climates.
